Chalcedony is found in a variety of colours. It can be grey-blue, white, pink and red. The mineral is usually found among silicon rocks. The principal quarries are Brazil, India, Uruguay and Russia. Its name comes from the ancient Byzantine port city of Chalcedon, known today in Turkey as Kadikoy.
