Malachite is a raw copper mineral, which name is derived from the Greek words malhe - herb or malaca - softness. It was used as a copper ore in ancient times, but it began to be valued more as a gemstone because of its rarity. The Greeks and Romans made jewellery and various ornaments from malachite. The Russian tsars used it to decorate their castles.

Though Malachite is most commonly found with azurite, it has a different character. The green mineral has protective properties. It absorbs negative emotions and pollutants in the atmosphere, such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide. Malachite absorbs electromagnetic waves, so it is often stored near microwaves, televisions, or other technical devices harmful to health.

It is a stone that promotes inner transformation. It helps overcome modesty and understand that we each have to take responsibility for our actions and thoughts. It is believed that malachite treats the emotional traumas brought on by childhood and reduces the symptoms of depression and anxiety. By fostering sincere love, it maintains the harmony of the relationship by helping people who often feel overly attached to others and meets their own needs alone.

Malachite also has a variety of healing properties. It has long been used to reduce menstrual and labour pains. The mineral regulates the cycle and treats uterine disorders. It also normalizes low blood pressure, reduces the symptoms caused by an epileptic seizure, and helps with nausea during travel.
