Fluorite: The Stone of Discernment and Aptitude

Fluorite is a mineral composed of calcium fluoride (CaF2). It comes in a multitude of colors ranging from colorless and transparent to a vibrant rainbow of hues such as purple, blue, green, yellow, pink, and black. The mineral often displays beautiful multi-color banding and internal phantoms that make each piece truly unique.

Fluorite is renowned for its cubic crystal structure, which can be observed in well-formed specimens. This mineral is so associated with the cube form that it was actually the crystal that helped the understanding of the phenomenon of fluorescence, a term derived from Fluorite's name. In fact, under ultraviolet light, many specimens of fluorite will emit a vivid luminescence.

Known as the "Genius Stone," Fluorite is treasured in the metaphysical realm for its supposed ability to boost comprehension, concentration and decision making. It is often associated with mental clarity and stability, attributed with the power to absorb and neutralize harmful or negative energies.

Geologically, Fluorite is a "gangue" mineral, often found in the company of valuable metal ores and contributing to their extraction process. The largest deposits of Fluorite are found in South Africa, Mexico, and China. But the most famous fluorite specimens come from the southern Illinois and northern Kentucky area in the USA, where it was declared the official state mineral of Illinois in 1965.
