Labradorite’s River of Blue Light
Vivid blue and cyan spread across this labradorite’s broad, glossy face, broken by charcoal-grey patches and fine, intersecting dark lines. Its uneven, roughly triangular outline has a tall rounded side and a sloping upper edge.
The coloured flashes of labradorite are called labradorescence. Across this face, bright reflective blue meets darker areas, while a slim white highlight follows the curve.
There is something of a terraced river in these colours—a blue current finding its way between dark banks. The broad, nearly flat base gives that imagined landscape a firm edge, as though the water has gathered behind a low charcoal shore.
