Muscovite’s Bright, Layered Landscape

Brown, tan and gold-coloured areas bring warmth to this muscovite, while silvery-grey patches give it a cooler gleam. Bright white and silvery reflections stand out against the dark recesses between its layers. Up close, the surface is full of small changes: thin, overlapping plates, fine ridges and uneven edges that keep the eye moving from brightness into shadow.

The broad lower section tapers towards a narrow, pointed upper end, giving the piece a jagged, upright silhouette. There is something of an imagined island landscape in those reflective faces—little silver shores with dark channels between them.
