Serpentine’s Rugged Landscape
Charcoal-grey and black give this serpentine a deep, mottled presence, interrupted by patches of beige, tan and off-white. Bright reflections catch across several faces, while darker shadows gather in the recesses. The contrast draws attention to its uneven surface: angular ridges, grooves and projecting edges give the outline a character far removed from a smooth, regular shape.
Its roughly block-like form rises from a broad, uneven base to a sloping top. Seen as an imaginary landscape, those ridges could become terraces above a winding river, with pale patches like open ground among dark banks.
